Always Making News...

News crews always seem to pick me out to interview.  Only made it one month in WV before appearing after a public conversation on medical marijuana in the state.

Morgantown Graffiti

Morgantown Graffiti

This old warehouse is right along the Monongahela River in the Sunnyside area of Morgantown.  Tons of stuff still inside, but none of it valuable (to me).  If you want to explore, a mask is recommended, as there is plenty of dust and particulate matter, along with the smell of urine, presumably from homeless individuals who sometimes take shelter there.

Baby One More Time: Britney Spears Mandolin & Beatbox Cover

Baby One More Time: Britney Spears Mandolin & Beatbox Cover

Snowstorm Jonas kept me trapped in my neighborhood this past weekend, but I can't/won't stop the creativity over a little condensation.  The resulting product was a mandolin and beatbox cover of "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.  The cold temperatures meant that I could only do a few overlapping takes, but it's not too bad for a 2-day project.

This was just the light dusting we received before Jonas dumped 20 inches on us.

Lost / Found: Confederate Flag

Lost / Found: Confederate Flag

I played a show in Richmond last weekend to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the community house I founded there.  On the drive north to West Virginia, I barely glimpsed the colors of the Southern Cross in the grass along the side of the road.  Curious, I turned the car around and walked over to the cloth.  It was even more unique than a plain ole battle flag.

The relationship of modern people to symbols like this is complicated, and my personal experience is confusing, both of which I wrote about in my article for Quail Bell:

Confederacy Torn: A Modern War of Ancestral Symbols

That article was written before the row over the South Carolina statehouse had resulted in the removal of the flag there, but I think it's still relevant to current discussions surrounding the hated symbol.

Still No Hunting

Still No Hunting

I was out taking some insurance photos for some extra $ last week when I came upon this decrepit cabin with a fallen sign: "Still No Hunting".  I've always loved decay photography, but the potential story behind this one made it more interesting.  Why the word "still"?
